西武西口文也投手（３５）がオープン戦初登板し、３回無失点と上々の滑り出しを見せた。ベストメンバーを並べた中日に対し、許した安打は２回に中村紀に浴びた二塁打の１本だけ。球数も３７球と少なく、終始危なげない投球を披露した。松坂が抜けた投手陣を支えるベテランは「球筋はまずまずだったけど、思ったところに投げられた球が少なかった。順調には来ているので、そのパーセンテージを上げていきたい」と１３年目のシーズンに向け意気込んだ。
