In an occasional series, USA TODAY examines the rapidly changing relationship between the Far East and America's pastime.

YOKOHAMA, Japan — The students in their crisp, black, high-collared school uniforms come out of the Nokendai station on the Keikyu Railway line and walk downhill along the narrow block-long street crammed with small businesses. The name on the last shop before they enter the grounds of Yokohama High School reads Destiny.
