Tony Caprio, a Pittsfield native and baseball fan, graduated from St. Joseph's High School in 1975 and first traveled to Japan in 1980 to teach English as part of a international program at Eckerd College. Caprio has lived in Japan permanently since 1996, excluding a one-year fellowship at Harvard University. He currently teaches at Rikkyo University in Tokyo. Caprio agreed to lend some perspective to the arrival of Boston's Daisuke Matsuzaka and the emergence of Japanese ballplayers in the United States.
