Tony Batista?

Discussion in the Ask the Commish forum
Tony Batista?
Hi everyone.

My reason for posting is that I'd like to know how my fellow countryman, Tony Batista, is doing now that he's playing in Japan. I looked at the players' list, but he isn't listed. Any info on his numbers this season will be greatly apreciated.

Regards,

Julio.

According to Sergei Borisov's site, he's at .269/.333/.358 with just 1 HR in 17 G. I think Softbank expected a good deal more than that, though obviously it's still very early.

Well, I know about Mr. Batista, he is over his prime in my book. So I see that 3 million dollar salary as yet another Nippon Pro Yakyu club wasting money on a EX MLB journeyman. I have a right to talk, since at the tryouts with 2 clubs here last year I was snubbed due to the fact that I had no PRO experience. "I wasn't what they are looking for at this time!" So I have nothing againist Tony, but I think the teams here just need to stop over looking decent talent that just hasn't been spotlighted yet!

Dude, if your grapes were any more sour, you'd be swimming in vinegar.

Knock Batista all you want, but remember one thing. He's playing pro ball, and you're not.

Thanks Mischa! Really not good numbers so far, but hopefully it is adjusting time for Tony. Although I agree he's past his prime, I think he can still mash and don't be surprised if he ends up with 35+ homers and a bunch of RBI.

Jeimon.

Batista is a streak hitter who can get a pile of home runs and RBIs in a week. He always looked a little stiff at third to me, but he had (at least a few years ago) a rifle for an arm.

Ya, Tony's a great hitter. I think he led the league in home runs after the All-Star break last year.
