Ichiro's Comments?

Ichiro's Comments?
Seems like I hear a lot of boos from Korean fans whenever Ichiro comes up. No doubt this goes back to comments Ichiro reportedly made before the first WBC. These included comments such as "I want to beat Korea so bad they remember it for 20 years" to his first impression of Korea being "It smells like garlic."

My reason for writing is I just want to set the record straight. I have heard various versions of these comments and several remarks that they were taken out of context or even made up by the Korean tabloid press.

Does anyone out there have the "truth" about what Ichiro did or did not say?

Are you ready to believe whoever answers your question here? You don't know who that is, do you?

Yeah, that's why I wrote "truth." Of course no one would be an authority on what was really said, but since I had read different versions, I was curious about what others had heard. I'm not trying to start controversy here, but just wanted to know what really happened.

He said that Korean baseball was about 20 years from being able to beat any of the major powers.

Did he say "Korea is 20 years away" or "we want to beat them so bad they remember it for 20 years"? I've heard both quotes.
