How Do You Get Looked At?

How Do You Get Looked At?
Hello, my name is Brad Brown and I play baseball for Marshalltown Community College. I got looked at by a Japaneses scout and he said that I could try out and make the team. But is their any way that I could get signed without flying to Japan to try out? Or do I have to fly to Japan to try out? I was just woundering.

Plus my girlfriend is from Japan and her parents live in the Minami Alps. I wouldn't mind seeing her parents again.

Could you let me know as soon as posible?

You mentioned in another post attempt (I guess you didn't notice that the forums are moderated?) that the scout who talked to you was with Seibu. Did you get his name? His business card? If so, you have something that the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions - you did read it, right?) doesn't cover - a contact person with a team.

The reason I've stressed the importance of an agent in some of the other related threads is that it is very important to have a contact. For people looking for an introduction to a team, an agent who has contacts in Japan can make that happen. Sending out resumes to the teams (or fan forum sites) without a prior introduction most likely won't get any reply. But then, you've read the FAQ on this subject and its related threads, so you know that already.

The bad news is that all the teams have filled their foreign player lineups. I don't think that any are looking for more foreign players at the moment.

The good news is that they'll be combing North America again in May to fill the holes left by those foreign players who didn't live up to expectations. If you can keep the communication lines open with this scout you met, then there's a chance that he'll come your way again at the end of Spring.

Others who may be interested in the future, if a Japanese scout talks with you, get his card! Having that contact person is very important. Don't let such an opportunity, even if it doesn't look appealing at the time, slip by.

Michael put it pretty well. But I would only add that it is highly unlikely that a Japanese team would take anyone out of a community college. If you have pro ball ambitions and don't get drafted, you should at least play some independent ball to lend yourself at least something of a pro track record.

And I can tell you that you are not ready for Japan. At all. Grow up a bit and maybe in another three or four years you might have a shot after putting some pro ball under your belt. Good luck.

Well actuly, a lot of really good baseball players go to junior college so they can get looked at and signed before the D-1 schools.
