Japan All-Star Break Questions

Japan All-Star Break Questions
I've seen on the schedule that there is a good amount of time for the All-Star Break in Japan, but I have some questions about it.

First off, why so many days off? I've seen a lot of days off in the leagues to start with, especially Mondays. Do the Pacific and Central League All-Stars play multiple games?

Another question is about the All-Star rosters. Do they have 25-man rosters like in the USA, or do they have expanded 40-man rosters so that if they do play multiple games, then they rotate out the All-Stars?

Next question is about substitutions. Do they put everybody into the game, or save them if there is that All-Star Series?

My last question is about where the games are played. Do they rotate ballparks like they do in MLB, or are they all at neutral locations?

Thanks a lot, this will be massively helpful.

- First off, why so many days off?

I always thought that there are so many days off because it's basically the players' summer vacation (except for those participating). Everyone else in Japan gets a week off in the summer, why not ball players?

Furthermore, you are correct, they play multiple games. They play two games most years, three games during Olympic years. You'll notice that I usually make reference to the "All Star Series" instead of the "All Star Game."

- Another question is about the All-Star rosters. Do they have 25-man rosters like in the USA, or do they have expanded 40-man rosters so that if they do play multiple games, then they rotate out the All-Stars?

This is where having all the historical threads comes in handy. Here is the 2006 All Star rosters thread. If you count the number of players on each final roster, it comes to 28. I'm not exactly sure if they limit each team to 25 players or not per game. (Sorry, I don't always have all the answers.)

- Do they put everybody into the game, or save them if there is that All-Star Series?

The managers try to use all of the players over the series. Those players voted in must start (relief pitchers excluded) in one of the two games.

- Do they rotate ballparks like they do in MLB, or are they all at neutral locations?

They usually play at one major ball park in each league (Tokyo Dome and Fullcast Stadium Miyagi this year), and include a neutral ground on Olympic years.

I hope this helps clear things up.
