What happened to Shigeo Hasegawa? I heard he was killed by mobsters in 1966.

The only thing I was able to dig up on a Shigeo Hasegawa [長谷川 繁雄] that matched your short description was this page (in Japanese). It's a short profile on him that reads:

Hasegawa Shigeo.
October 2, 1932 - June 24, 1966.
Born in Hiroshima Prefecture, Takehara City.
Takehara High School --> Housei(?) University.
1956-61 Nankai, '62 Chunichi, '63 Kintetsu.
Positions: First Base --> Outfield.
Entered Nankai in 1956 and became the regular first baseman, converted to outfield in 1957.
Played in All Star Series in 1958.
Batting: 8 years, 837 games, 1,994 at bats, 537 hits, 54 home runs, 240 RBIs, 47 stolen bases, .269 batting average.

Does this have something to do with the banned players that you're reserching?

I really wish I knew more about history than I do. Sorry I can't be of more help with this historical research project you seem to be working on. (Will you share your findings when you're done? It looks like it'll make for a good article.)
