I hear that John "Wayback" Wasdin has been signed in Japan. That should keep MLB homerun totals down this year, and spike yakyu totals.....

What other gaijin have signed so far?

Chris Seelbach split 2001 between the Atlanta Braves and Richmond. He declared free agency in October. Pat Flury played for Ottawa in 2000 and Columbus in 2001. D.T. Cromer got into 85 games at first for Cincinnati in 2000-01. Utilityman Scott Sheldon played all nine positions plus DH at Texas from 1997 to 2001 (he made one pitching appearance). Looking over your list of foreign players, I can give you a short biography of a few of them. Rob Stanifer played with the Iowa Cubs (Chicago Cubs AAA Affiliate) during the 2001 season. Previously he was with the Pawtucket Red Sox (Boston's AAA Affiliate)in 1999 & 2000. Previous to that he was drafted as a Florida Marlin in 1996.

Carlos Castillo played with the Pawtucket Red Sox in the 2000 & 2001 season.

Morgan Burkhart played with the Pawtucket Red Sox in the 2000 & 2001 season as well.

Marc Valdes, who is now 30 years old, pitched for Miami in 1995-6, Montreal in 1997-8, Houston in 2000 and Atlanta in 2001. Overall, he made 144 appearances including 22 starts. He had a record of 12-15 and 4 saves. I believe there has been discussion of Trey Moore elsewhere on this site.

Turman played for New Haven in 2000 and for Tacoma in 2001. Gulan played for Calgary in 2001. Beltran was a New York Met, then was traded to Colorado in 1999 and was with the Rockies through 2000.

Scott Bullett is discussed elsewhere on this site. Boi Rodriguez has gotten around. Atlanta took him in the 3rd round from Indiana State. He was at Greenville in AA with them in '91. By '95 he was at AAA Calgary in the Pittsburgh system and was a replacement Pirate during the strike. In 2000 he played for the Yuma Bullfrogs of the independent Western League. His last stop before Japan was Monclova in the Mexican League last year.

Thanks for all of the information on the players. That's inspired me to get around to creating that "biography" table in the player database, and I've been entering in what you've all been contributing above. It's a start.

And, yes, I updated the player page to output the profiles as well. See Domingo Guzman or Boi Rodriguez for a couple of examples. (One with a logged in contributor, the other not logged in.)

Let me know what you think. And of course, keep those profiles coming.
