Chunichi Sets new Central League Single Game Strike Out Record
The Chunichi Dragons set a new Central League record for strike outs in a single game, when the Dragons' batters struck out 19 times against the Yakult Swallows on April 6 at Jingu Stadium. By the end of the 8th inning, Chunichi had already tied their club record with 16 strikeouts, as Yakult starter Shogo Fujii struck out 14, and reliever Hirotoshi Ishii struck out 2. In the bottom of the 9th inning, Yakult reliever Ryota Igarashii struck out 2, and then Igarashii added another in the top of the 10th inning, helping Chunichi to break the previous CL record held by the Taiyo Whales against the Hiroshima Carp at Hiroshima Stadium on April 23, 1969, and also the Hanshin Tigers at Koshien Stadium vs the Tokyo Giants on August 1, 2002.

They also tied the all time NPB record which was set back on April 21, 1995, where Koji Noda of the Orix BlueWave struck out 19 Lotte Marines at Chiba Marine Stadium.

Sources for the records came from Sankei Sports.
About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
