Kanemototo Avoids Double Plays to New Record
Hiroshima's Kanemoto set a new Pro Yakyu record last night (8/31) by not hitting into a double play 902 consecutive plate appearances. The previous record was held by Dokushima (?) of Toei when he went 900 plate appearances between 1961 and '62 without getting doubled up.

The last time that Kanemoto hit into a double play was the third inning on May 12, 2000 against Chunichi, so he hasn't hit into a double play yet at all this season. There have been only 10 players to finish a season without hitting into a double play (meeting plate appearance requirements to qualify for a title) since 1950. Of those, only Hanshin's Fujita did so playing in every game of the season in 1962. Kanemoto is well on his way to becoming the second.
About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
