Undefeated Season for a Pitcher

Undefeated Season for a Pitcher
The Hawks' starter Kazumi Saitoh has had an excellent season and has a chance to finish the season with zero loss on his record. He's now 14-0 after tonight's victory (August 24) over the Marines.

I was just curious though, what's the record for most wins in a season by an NPB pitcher without a single loss?

I'm not sure about this, but according to an article from Sankei Sports, with his 14th consecutive win last night Saitoh is just one win away from tying the NPB record for most consecutive victories starting from Opening Day, at 15 consecutive wins, achieved by Shigekuni Mashiba of the Nippon Ham Fighters back in 1981. According to the Japanese Baseball Daily Data Warehouse, Mashiba finished the 1981 season 15-0, so I would assume that gives Mashiba the record, unless Saitoh can top that.
