Satoh Yoshinori Breaks Koshien Record

Satoh Yoshinori Breaks Koshien Record
Possibly this year's best/most watched pitcher in Koshien, Sendai Ikuei's Satoh Yoshinori, just broke Koshien's old record of fastest pitch. The old record was 154 km/h, a record held by now BayStars pitcher, Hayato Terahara, was tied few times in the first round match where Satoh-kun struck out 17 batters.

And in the 4th inning of the second round match against Chiben Gakuin, he ran a fastball high and in, which was clocked at 155km/h.

With a great Koshien tournament already in his belt during the 2006 summer, where he led his team deep into the tournament, he's improved even more. With a fastball that constantly reaches the mid-150s, coupled with a sharp slider, he really has a chance to lead his team all the way this year.

Anyone watching this year's Koshien after the most touted Nakata Sho and his Osaka Toin got dethroned in the Osaka Tournament?

As with last year, this year's Koshien tournament can be found on Asahi, which has full stream of every inning being played.

Heh, I was thinking the same thing when I saw him clock 155 - that he looked like he could really carry that team all the way. But then Chiben just killed them in the 5th inning.

Which goes to show that just having an ace pitcher who can throw 95mph doesn't necessarily mean you'll win the game. Though yes, Satoh can definitely bring the heat.

Seems to me he got a bit too excited after clocking the 155. He kinda lost some control afterwards, and also tried throwing everything at 153-155. As a result, Chiben Gakuin's hitters adjusted to it, and were able to find the right spot to send the ball to.

Afterwards he took some stuff off, gained more control, throwing around 147-150, and was able to get through the rest of the match without much danger. But it was too late already.

Can we maybe have a chat room set up like last year so we can chat about the games as the tournament gets deeper?
