I think that Deanna's The Importance of Being Darvish should be required reading before tonight's game. Please be sure to have your homework done before game time.

Turns out we didn't get the close game we had all imagined. It certainly wasn't Matsuzaka vs. Saitoh of last year. Naruse was knocked out after 3+ innings. Darvish wasn't untouchable, but got outs when he needed them. Micheal [sic] looked sharp for five pitches, but Ohmatsu tried to make a fool of him again. Still, Micheal persevered.
So, it's congratulations to the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters, heading to the Nippon Series for two years in a row.

As good as Naruse has been this year, I kind of expected the lack of experience to play a role here. Once he started having control issues, I knew it was over with. With the weak Chiba Lotte offense, we couldn't afford to give up that three run homer.
Lotte really didn't deserve to go to the Series this year, anyway. There are no power threats in that batting order, Zuleta isn't in there, Fukuura hit well under .300 for the first time in ages, our #4 batter hit less than 10 homers, Tsuyoshi is no longer an elite base stealing threat, etc. It's a miracle they even got this far.
That's not to say that Nippon Ham's batting order deserves to go to the Series either. However, their pitching has been a heck of a lot better. Lotte had off years from KobaMasa, Shimizu, Kubo, and Fujita (who looks like he's done). If it weren't for brilliant rookie years from Ogino and Kawasaki, they'd have one of the weaker bullpens in Japan.
The better team definitely won in the end. I want to see Nippon Ham vs. Kyojin in the Series with Nippon Ham going back to back.

Congrats to the Fighters. I'd like to see a Fighters-Giants Series also, with the Fighters winning, too, so Trey Hillman can go out on top.
