JBPBA To Boycott Climax Series

Discussion in the NPB News forum
JBPBA To Boycott Climax Series
JBPBA president, Shinya Miyamoto, suggested the players could boycott the new Climax Series [Japan Ball] because of the failure by NPB to eliminate the kibowaku system until next year.

Miyamoto attacked NPB for the failures to eliminate the kibowaku system by saying:
"I don't think they (NPB) are concerned about the future of Japanese baseball. If management doesn't believe that Japanese baseball is headed in the right direction, they shouldn't agree to this."
Thank goodness someone gets it, the league for sure doesn't realize it, or is doing a good job at hiding it.

Switching back to the possibility of a Climax Series boycott, the Nippon Series should still happen, as both first place teams from both leagues would advance automatically to the Series.

Well in my opinion this is sheer bloody-mindedness. I'm not sure Furata would have come up with anything so provocative. NPB has agreed to change the system. It's going to take effect next year, which is a whole lot sooner than most reforms take to be implemented in Japan. What more do they want?

Of course if it's an empty threat and Miyamoto is simply huffing and puffing away, then he and the association will come out of this with diminished credibility. Not a good way to obtain benefits for your members. You've got to pick your battles. And when you get what you want, just shut up.
