Hall of Famer Makoto Kozuru Passes Away
The June 4, 2003 Daily Yomiuri [Link] reports that Hall of Famer Makoto Kozuru died on June 2nd due to heart failure in Tokyo at the age of 80.

Kozuru holds the NPB single season records of 161 RBIs and 143 runs scored. Both records were set in 1950 while he was playing for the Nippon Series Champion Shochiku Robins in the first year of the two league system. He was also the league MVP and swatted 51 home runs that year.

The reason why he was called "Japanese Joltin Joe" was because he very much resembled Joe in appearance.

About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
