Dang! I was hoping to find out the spelling from you, westbaystars-san. I've not been able to find it anywhere! I thought it might be something like Wei-Tsu, but really 've no idea.

Sorry about that. I waited for the ShuBe release of the names so that I could have the yomigana of all the names. It was surprized to see two names in Katakana in this year's draft.
If there are any Chinese/Japanese/English trilinguals out there, his Kanji (last name first) are 林 威助 (sorry for those of you without Kanji support).

Lin Wei Zhu.
In Chinese, "zh" is pronounced like "j", but slightly softer. Keep the tongue curled in the back of the mouth instead of touching the front of the roof.

I've transliterated it as Lin Wei-tzu. I saw some video footage of him last night and he's pretty raw. He's kind of a handsy hitter, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I'd like to see him load up a bit more on his back leg, though, to take better advantage of his natural power (53 homers in high school). I think he could eventually hit .300 with 30 homers a year in Japan despite his relatively short stature (5'10" 170 pounds), but he is still a couple of years away. Could end up being a nice replacement for Hiyama when he finally completely peters out (which will be sooner rather than later), though they have also have Sakurai waiting in the wings, too.
Hanshin actually had a pretty nice draft (though not nearly as good as Yomiuri, unfortunately, who got two guys who I think will be superstars in Kisanuki and Nagata as well as a pretty sound product in Yuya Kubo). Hard for me to believe that Tomoyuki Kubota was still around in the fifth round. He has a couple of minor mechanical flaws that could easily be ironed out
and he needs to add a changeup to make his excellent fastball and good hard slider more effective. He is potentially a dominant starting pitcher, though that isn't going to happen this season.

Wei-tzu is Wade-Giles romanization for would be written in Pinyin as Wei-zi. (Yes, that's right! Sun-tzu should really be spelled Sunzi!)
Zi and Zhu have completely different pronunciations, and judging from the character Westbay-san provided it must be Zhu.

Just a quick added note, after talking with my sister (who studied Chinese for seven years): if he is from Taiwan, his name would be pronounced the same as described above, but it would be spelled different. That is because pinyin is a mainland China invention, and the Taiwanese government doesn't cotton to much of anything used by the PRC. Taiwan still uses the Wade-Giles romanization, so his name would be spelled Lin Wei Chu. But the second part of his first name would still be pronounced closer to "jew", not "chew".

The "J" for draft pick means that a player chose the team to be drafted by as his choice. The jiyu picks then complicate the draft numbering system, so rounds 1 through 4 kind of jump around a bit. The draft ordering was discussed last year if anyone is interested in looking through the archives.
