Valentine Wins Shoriki Award
Bobby Valentine was named the winner of the Matsustaro Shoriki Award on Wednesday for his contributions to Japanese baseball. Valentine was the first foreigner and the first member of the Chiba Lotte Marines to win this award.

The four-member selection committee, which includes former Giants managers Tetsuharu Kawakami and Motoshi Fujita, commended Valentine's leadership and passion for the fans. Valentine will recieve 5 million yen for winning the award.

Shoriki served as President of the Yomiuri Shimbun and was instrumental in the establishment of professional baseball in Japan.
