Wow, a brand new stadium for about $90 million. It'll probably be spartan, but that's still better than the old Municipal Stadium.

Do they have the designs for that new stadium? It would be interesting to see if they decide to do something new and pattern the ballpark after a Major League stadium.

I reckon the budget won't allow for a MLB style retro ballpark. Maybe it'll be like a newish AAA park, expanded, which would still be great being natural turf and all! Too bad the Kobe stadium's going out of service, that place must be so much better than Osaka Dome.

According to Timmerman-san's blog from a few years ago, (not sure if it might hold true now) they said there were plans to model the new stadium after Camden Yards or PNC Park. If it's modeled like Camden Yards it would be nice looking to see.

Great news for the Carp team, and the baseball fans of Hiroshima and southern Honshu. Now the challenge is for the team to be as good as the new stadium when it opens.
BTW, has anyone heard any rumours about what use the current stadium site might be put to?

The original plan was to put the new park in an abandoned former Japan Rail freight yard. I assume that is still operative.
Now here is to hoping that Marty Brown gets the Carp managerial job.

Hiroshima announced on October 31, 2005 that the "piggy bank" they set up for donations towards building the new stadium surpassed the 100 million yen goal that was set. As of October 31, they raised 101,139,957 yen from over 1,200 collection points set up nation wide. The club plans to give the money collected over to Hiroshima City on November 23, during Hiroshima Carp Fan Appreciation Day. [Original article from Nikkan Sports (in Japanese)]
