Minchey Shuts Out Both Leagues

Minchey Shuts Out Both Leagues
Last night (5/24) at Chiba Marine Stadium, Nathan Minchey became the second foreign pitcher to throw a shut out in both leagues. Minchey mixed a 142 kph fast ball with a 97 kph slow ball for a difference of 45 kph, keeping BlueWave batters fooled all evening. He gave up just three hits and a walk while striking out three. A pair of double plays meant that he threw to just two over the minimum in what turned out to be the quickest game in both leagues so far this season, 2 hours and 17 minutes.

The last time Minchey threw a shut out was while with Hiroshima his first year in Japan, 1998. He threw two that year.

The only other foreign pitcher to have thrown a shutout in both leagues was Bill Nishiyama who threw one for the Giants in 1955 then five for the Toei Fliers (now Nippon Ham Fighters) in 1958.
About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
