Terahara Lost Debut
[ Author: westbaystars | Posted: Mar 5, 2002 11:59 PM | YBS Fan ]

In Super-Rookie Terahara's debut game against the mighty Giants, he gave up 1 run on 5 hits over 3 innings. As the Hawks were held to just 3 hits and no runs, Terahara was tagged with the loss. That kind of disappointed the 48,000 fans who showed up at Fukuoka Dome for the 18 year old's first game.

Nikkan Sports' headline on Sunday's (3/4) front page read "Terahara 2-gun kiki" ("Terahara in danger of dropping to the farm"). It's a little too early for such headlines, but...

Terahara maxed out at 142 kph, generally throwing in the mid-130's. His fast ball just didn't have much zip on it. The kid still has a month to get back into shape. It looked like he was a bit over weight in January, but he appears to be slimming back down. I think that the weight fluctuations over such a short period may have also effected him.

Still, the fans made their statement that they want to see another boy wonder, so you can believe that Daiei is going to do what it takes to have Terahara succeed as soon as possible. He may sit out the first week or two at most (barring injury). Terahara is Daiei's poster child this year, so you can bet that this 18 year old is going to be in the public eye a great deal.
About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
