Iguchi's Contract

Discussion in the Rumor Mill forum
Iguchi's Contract
Kazuo Matsui killed the market for Japanese infielders, albeit temporarily. Iguchi's agent has come under a lot of fire in these forums, but I would argue that he did an excellent job representing his client.

The contract continued him at a similar rate to what he had been getting, but with performance incentives and a team-option on a third year for $3.25 million, with a quarter-million buyout.

Given that much was expected of Kaz, and he had a very difficult transition to MLB, I am surprised that Iguchi got such a good contract.

The fact is, all players are different in their ability to adjust. Ichiro adjusted instantly, for Godzilla and Kazuo it took more time. It is misleading to paint Japanese players with a broad brush, and extrapolate from Kaz to Iguchi, however tempting it might be.
About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
