ESPN at 6 PM, ET leads with Matsui vs. Ichiro
ESPN's lead story on the 6PM SportsCenter in the States was the lead-in for the Yankees-Mariners game tonight. They talked with some of the Japanese press in English to talk about the differences between the two players, like it isn't that hard to tell. Matsui: hits the ball far; Ichiro: runs very fast.

The April 29, 2003 MLB.com [Link] notes the reactions of Japanese MLB players to the meeting between Ichiro and Matsui.

Kazuhisa Ishii, Tomo Ohka, Hideo Nomo, Tsuyoshi Shinjo, and Shigetoshi Hasegawa's comments generally convey three thoughts:
  1. It is a good thing.
  2. Not that a big a deal.
  3. Bigger deal in Japan than in the U.S.A.
