The Yankees simply can't allow him to leave. Pure and simple. He's too valuable a player to let go. His 0-fer in game 5 aside, he's become a very important part of the team.
If they don't keep him, we can be sure that every team is going to want him.

From everything I've heard, the Yankees want him back and Matsui wants to stay with the team.

I agree, but never underestimate the greed of an agent.
