In my opinion, Ishii would be a good closer because he does well in the first inning, but it always seems to be the 5th and 6th inning where he breaks down. But we'll see what happens.

If it is simply a question of tiring later on that effects his control, you'd have a point. I just think he is too erratic to be a closer. A closer cannot afford to walk anyone. Maybe you're suggesting he be a long reliever?

Yeah, I agree. He gives up too many walks to be a reliable reliever in tight situations.

Good for Kazuhisa, but I assume he's gonna be a long relief pitcher.

I guess they choose to ignore that he is also erratic and walks batters frequently. I think this is a terrible idea. Let him go to Arizona or another pitcher starved organization where he can slog through his starts. An unreliable starter makes for a more unreliable reliever.
