Nomo Designated for Assignment

Discussion in the Nichi-Bei forum
Nomo Designated for Assignment
The Tampa Bay Devil Rays designated P Hideo Nomo for assignment, today(July 16th). Nomo went 5-8 with a 7.24ERA in 19 starts this year with the Devil Rays.

Nomo said he will head back to Florida to join his family, and said he has every intention of staying in the majors. Nomo said:"I want to keep playing in the Majors, so I'm going to wait for a call, I understand why they made the call."

Nomo said he has no intention of returning to Japan however. Nomo this year has won his 200th game between the majors and NPB.

Where is he going? Durham Bulls (AAA), Montgomery Biscuits(AA). I'll feel sorry for him if he goes to Pricneton (A) or lower. Poor Tornado!!

A rumor has it that (gasp!)the Yankees are considering taking him on, probably because their starting rotation is so ravaged. Who knows how far that will go, though.

"Where is he going?"

Now that Nomo is designated for assignment, the Devil Rays have 10 days to trade or release him. I seriously doubt he will be pitching in AAA Durham.

With the recent trade for Al Leiter, and his good pitched game against the Red Sox, I'm not so sure about Nomo going to the Yankees right now, though who knows right now.
