KBO's 2005 Import Players

Discussion in the KBO News forum
KBO's 2005 Import Players
Hyudai Unicorns: Larry Sutton, Mickey Callaway

Samsung Lions: Martin Vargas, Luther Hackman

Doosan Bears: Matthew Randel, Chuck Smith

Kia Tigers: Daniel Rios, Michael Johnson

SK Wyverns: Jose Cabrera, Jesus Sanchez

LG Twins: Ruben Mateo, TBD

Hanhwa Eagles: Jay Davis, Mark Smith

Lotte Giants: Robert Perez, Ryan Jackson

Not too bad. Sad to see Brumbaugh and Rath leave for Japan, but congrats and good luck to them. Ruben Mateo seems to be the biggest signing so far. But after a quick look down at the players, I would say that Robert Perez, Jay Davis, and Mateo should be the big hitters this season. As for pitchers, I know Daniel Rios will be back in form, but everyone else is new to the KBO and that makes it hard to predict how they will perform.

It's interesting to see how many former NPB players are playing in Korea. Vargas, Randel, Mark Smith, and Robert Perez all played here in Japan. I believe that's the Mark Smith who played in MLB, came to Japan to play for the Swallows, and then returned to MLB with the Marlins.

As a Cardinals' fan, it's interesting that there are two former Cards there in Sutton and Hackman.

This is totally off the topic, but am I the only one who finds the name "Luther Hackman" interesting? In the movie "Superman," Lex Luther was played by Gene Hackman.

Ruben Mateo will be an interesting player to watch. Mateo was a former top prospect with the Rangers until he was injured and was never the same since.
