Thomas St. John wrote in the October 14, 2004 Korea Times [Link] that the Doosan Bears beat the Samsung Lions in Game One of the best three-of-five Korean Baseball Organization playoff series.

Gary Rath gave up six hits and three runs in 7 1/3 innings to get the victory in Taegu on Wednesday. Kim Han-soo drove in all of the Lions' runs on a three-run homer off of Rath in the eighth inning. Koo Ja-woon earned the save with his 146 kph (92 mph) pitches.

The third-place Doosan Bears advanced to the second round of the playoffs by taking the first two games of the best two-of-three first round over the fourth-place Kia Tigers. The winner of the second round pitting the second-place Samsung Lions versus Doosan Bears plays the first-place Hyundai Unicorns starting October 21st.

The October 15, 2004 Korea Times [Link has Thomas St. John's recap of Game 2 of the second-round of the KBO playoffs.

Mendy Lopez hit a third-inning home run and went 2-for-3 to lead the Samsung Lions past the Doosan Bears in Taegu to tie up the best-of-five series.

Park Myung-hwan will start for the Doosan Bears against Samsung Lion's Kevin Hodges in Game 3 to be played in Seoul's Chamsil Stadium on Saturday.

Thomas St. John writes in the October 20, 2004 Korea Times [Link] that Game 1 of the best-of-seven Korean Series starts on Thursday night pitting the Samsung Lions against the Hyundai Unicorns.

The Unicorns finished first in the eight team Korean Baseball Organization regular season, and the Lions followed in second place. Samsung pitchers had a 3.74 team ERA compared to a 4.06 Hyundai ERA.

Bae Young-soo is the probable Lions' starter versus the Unicorns' Mike Fyhrie for Game 1. Samsung's Kevin Hodges and Hyundai's Kim Soo-kyung will go in Game 2.

Games 1 and 2 are in Suwon; 3 and 4 in Taegu; and the final three games if neccessary will be played at Seoul's Chamsil Stadium.

The Samsung Lions won Game 3 of the second round of the playoffs by shutting out the Doosan Bears 2-0 behind pitchers Kevin Hodges, Kwon Hyuk, and Lim Chang-yong in Seoul [Link].

Cho Jin-seo wrote in the October 17, 2004 Korea Times [Link] that the Samsung Lions advanced to the Korean Series with a 8-5 win over the Doosan Bears in Game 4 of the best-of-five second round of the KBO playoffs. Mendy Lopez of the Samsung Lions drove in three runs with a home run in the first inning. Lopez was the playoff series MVP with two home runs, six runs-batted-in, and hit 6-for-13.
