KBO Highlights and Standings (week of May 4, 2003)
The May 5, 2003 Korea Times [Link] highlights Sunday's KBO games.

Lotte Giants 5 - Samsung Lions 4:
The Giants played Lion killer as the last place team beat the first place Lions in Taegu. Samsung had three home runs including Lee Seung-yeop's game tying homer in the eighth inning. Noh Jang-jin gave up two ninth inning runs to lose the game. Sohn Min-han yielded two runs and four hits in 7 2/3 innings to keep the Giants in the game. Lim Kyung-wan was given the win.

Doosan Bears 3 - LG Twins 2:
Satoshi Iriki got the last two Twins' batters to fly out with a runner on third to earn his fourth save for the Bears in Chamsil. Kwon Myung-chul allowed two runs on two hits in five innings to pick up the victory for Doosan.

Hyundai Unicorns 11 - Kia Tigers 10:
The Unicorns climbed into a virtual tie for first place on a game ending home run by Shim Jong-soo in the bottom of the 10th inning in Suwon.

SK Wyverns 4 - Hanwha Eagles 1:
Chae Byung-ryong struck out seven batters and yielded only one run in seven innings to beat the Eagles in Taejon. The Wyverns now have a four game winning streak.

The May 6, 2003 Korea Times [Link] reports on Monday's KBO action.

Samsung Lions 9 - Lotte Giants 3:
Lee Seung-yeop and Ma Hae-young both hit their league-leading eighth home runs in the first inning to beat the Giants in Taegu. Yang Joon-hyuk and Kim Han-soo also connected for home runs for the Lions. Kim Jin-woong gave up only two runs and four hits in five innings to post his second win of 2003.

LG Twins 3 - Doosan Bears 1:
The Twins beat the Bears in Chamsil. Doosan left 10 men on base in their loss. Twins reliever Jeon Seung-nam has thrown 28 1/3 straight scoreless innings including 1 1/3 scoreless innings on Monday. Lee Sang-hoon pitched the ninth inning to earn the save.

Kia Tigers 8 - Hyundai Unicorns 7:
Cho Kyu-je struck out two batters in the tenth inning but catcher Kim Dong-soo lost control of the ball to allow the Tigers to score the winning run in Suwon.

Hanwha Eagles 11 - SK Wyverns 2:
Lee Sang-mok pitched six innings to win the game for the Eagles in Taejon. Chang Jong-hoon hit a home run among his three extra base hits for Hanwha.

The May 7, 2003 Korea Times [Link] highlights Tuesday's KBO games.

Kia Tigers 4 - Samsung Lions 3:
Choi Sang-deok (3-0) pitched six innings giving up two runs and four hits to get the win for the Tigers in Kwanju. The Lions' Lee Seung-yeop blasted his ninth home run to become the sole HR leader in the KBO for 2003. Lee has also homered in three consecutive games. Ma Hae-young, Shim Jong-soo, and Michael Coolbaugh are tied with eight home runs each for 2003.

SK Wyverns 8 - Hyundai Unicorns 2:
Eddie Diaz hit 3-for-5 with a fifth inning home run and an RBI double to lead the Wyverns past the Unicorns in Suwon. Starter Um Jung-wook (0-0) struck out three batters, allowing one hit and three walks in three innings. Je Chun-mo (2-0) notched the victory in 2 1/3-innings of relief. Kim Dong-soo hit a sixth inning two-run home run for Hyundai.

Hanwha Eagles - LG Twins:
Rained out in Seoul.

Doosan Bears - Lotte Giants:
Rained out in Pusan.

The May 9, 2003 Korea Times [Link] has Kim Tae-gyu's report on Thursday's KBO action.

Hyundai Unicorns 14 - Sk Wyverns 3:
Chong Min-tae (6-0) struck out four batters and allowed no runs in eight innings to lead the Unicorns past the Wyverns at Suwon. Cho Jin-ho took the loss for SK as he gave up seven runs in five innings.the Unicorns (18-8-1) thrashed the SK Wyverns (15-10-1) 14-3.

Lotte Giants 11 - Doosan Bears 6:
Lotte Giants 11 - Doosan Bears 7:
Kim Dong-joo blasted three runs in the Bears' double losses to the Giants in Pusan (Busan). Doosan is now in last place in the KBO standings.

LG Twins 2 - Hanwha Eagles 2:
Jeon Seung-nam ran his streak to 32 innings of shutout ball by pitching 2 2/3 in the first game.

LG Twins 8 - Hanwha Eagles 1:
Ahn Chi-yong had four RBIS for the winning Twins in the second game at Chamsil (Jamsil).
