カープの新打線がいきなり威力を発揮した。巨人とのオープン戦（広島）で、ブラウン監督がほのめかしていた通りに１番赤松、２番天谷、３番に梵が名を連ねた。存在感を示したのは梵だ。５回に同点の中前打を放つなど２安打を放った。その前に出塁していた赤松、天谷を含め３人ともホームを踏んで逆転劇を導いた。監督は新打線について言葉を選んだが、巨人相手の逆転勝ちで手ごたえは感じ取ったはずだ。
