広島は打線が序盤から効率よく得点し、先発の長谷川に約５カ月ぶりの２勝目をプレゼント。１０連勝中の阪神の勢いを止め、６年ぶりに阪神戦の勝ち越しも決めた。ブラウン監督は「相手の武器を使わせない展開にした」と、相手が継投策で逃げ切る前に試合を決めたことに満足げ。「阪神にウチの野球で勝てたのは大きい」と地元での残り２戦にも自信を見せた。
