サヨナラでの４連勝を、燃える男桜井が決めた。同点の９回裏、無死満塁。阪神桜井はマウンドのヤクルト館山の足元めがけて打ち返した。強いゴロが中前に抜けていき、サヨナラの走者赤星がホームを駆け抜けた。両手を真横に広げて“飛行機ポーズ”の桜井は一塁を回ってナインにもみくちゃにされた。
