同球団社長は「今年もうまくチームを引っ張っている。（続投は）既定路線」と語り、来季が４年契約の３年目に当たる同監督は「感謝している。最初に雇ってもらったときと変わらぬ情熱を持っていると伝えた」とコメントした。
一方、米大リーグでの監督復帰について、同監督は「来年も日本でやることしか考えていない」と否定した。

「来年もよろしく…とあらためてお願いした。（今オフ）どういうことがあるか分からないが、（続投が覆ることは）ないであろうと思っている」
