楽天は試合の流れを手放すプレーが出てしまった。五回は朝井がけん制悪送球でピンチを広げて失点。同点の七回は２番手・渡辺恒が先頭打者を死球で出塁させ、後を受けた山村が連打を浴びて勝ち越された。野村監督は「ミスが重なって負けた。継投ミスあり、エラーあり、失投あり…」と力なくタメ息まじりのコメントとなった。
