遊離軟骨除去の内視鏡手術は一般的に復帰まで約２カ月が必要とされ、今季のレギュラーシーズンの出場は絶望的となる。
８月中にフリーエージェント（ＦＡ）権を取得するはずだった福留は、７月２４日に出場選手登録を外れ、必要な登録日数に２９日足りない。だが、今季から前年の登録日数が１４５日以上の選手が故障のため登録を外れた場合「故障選手特例措置」として最大６０日まで加算されることが決まっており、ＦＡ権は取得できる見通し。
