悲しいかな、９点差をつけられている状況なのにスタンドが一番沸いた。７回１死、ヤクルト古田兼任監督が今季初の「代打オレ」として登場したときだ。走者がない場面という「野手１６番目」の存在だからこその条件だった。それでもファンはお構いなし。一塁側はもちろん、横浜側も沸いた。４月１９日に出場して以来、かたくなまでに采配（さいはい）に専念してきた指揮官。「あまりにワンサイドで悔しかったから」と、一言で理由を片付けた。
