ヤクルトは３連敗で借金が今季最多タイの１６となり、３位阪神とも１０ゲーム差まで開いた。安定感には定評のあった館山が６回途中８失点と、巨人の１発攻勢に屈した。古田兼任監督は「僕らにできるのは目の前の試合を頑張ることだけ」と言葉少なだった。試合後はファンから「試合に出ろっ！」と厳しいヤジも飛ぶなど、重苦しいムードが漂った。後半戦２勝９敗と大失速し、クライマックスシリーズへの望みも、風前のともしびとなった。
