巨人木佐貫洋投手（２７）が横浜戦（横浜）で７回１失点の好投で今季９勝目を挙げた。９勝のうち４勝が横浜戦で“ハマキラー”の本領を発揮。８回からは豊田－上原の必勝リレーで逃げ切った。打線は初回、３番二岡、４番小笠原が連続本塁打で３点先制するなど援護した。セ・リーグは４球団の混戦が続くが、「勝負の８月」に白星発進。首位中日が敗れ、わずか１日で首位を奪回した。
