楽天山崎武が“王超え”の３４号を放った。４回１死走者なし、初球のカーブをジャストミートし、左翼席上段に運んだ。田中の登板試合７発目とあって、「田中に、今日は絶対に打ってやるからと、自分に言い聞かせる意味でも言ったんだ。カーブを狙った訳ではない。うまく反応したので、ナイスホームラン」とニンマリ。３９歳シーズンでの３４号は７９年の巨人王を抜いて最多となり「現時点で王さんを抜いたのはうれしいね」と笑った。７回には２死三塁から左前適時打。６月２６日以来の適時打に「得点圏で全然打っていなかったからね。本塁打よりうれしい」。後半戦５試合で３本塁打と量産ペースの兆しだ。
