初出場の市川（兵庫）が接戦を制し、甲子園初白星を挙げた。先発の左腕河津尚幸（３年）が回を追うごとに調子を上げ、４回以降はノーヒット投球。１１三振を奪い、２失点完投した。５番打者としても、５回に決勝の左前タイムリーを放ち、投打で活躍した。「甲子園の雰囲気に飲まれたけど、守備に助けられた。全国でも通用することが分かった。自信をもって戦いたい」と帝京との２回戦に気合を入れた。
