仙台育英（宮城）の佐藤由規投手（３年）が、センバツ３人目となる１５０キロの大台を記録し、５安打１４奪三振と力投したが実らなかった。右手親指打撲と、左手甲の亀裂骨折にもかかわらず投げ抜いた佐藤由は「夏は、もっと頼られる存在になって戻ってくる」と涙を見せずに前を見据えた。
