I am about to publish a manuscript on which I have been working for 41 years, about all games lasting 20 or more innings. One particular game plays a central role in the manuscript, because it is the longest game that I have been able to find. It is a 45-inning game on Sep 20, 1983 in Niibara, Japan won by Light Manufacturing 2-1 over Tanaka Hospital in 8 hours 19 minutes.
I was informed about this game by fellow SABR member, Massy Ikei, of Japan, but we have been unable to obtain any further confirming details, like an article about the game or a box score.
Before I publish my manuscript, it is essential to me that I confirm the existence of this game, with either a box score or some kind of documentary proof from the Japanese press that the game actually took place. Can you give me any advice on how I might obtain such proof?
