Solution to Hawks Starting Problems

Solution to Hawks Starting Problems
Now, I don't have the stats for ni-gun teams, but I think there's a possible solution for the Hawks' 5th and Olympic starter dilemma. The Hawks are losing Wada and Sugiuchi for the Olympics, and also they're not helping things by having Jeremy Powell starting, and he only seems to pitch well against Orix.

The solution? Anybody remember Jason Standridge and Nagisa Arakaki? Didn't think so. Personally, I think it's a good idea, and it's better than possibly mentally wrecking some of the youngsters they're developing at ni-gun. The worst that will happen is that they get shelled and the Hawks lose a couple games. It's better than trotting out Yan Yao-Shun and have him only get through 1/3 of an inning like the other day, putting a strain on the bullpen.

Think about it. Since he struck out 16 Marines that day in April, Ohba has had trouble getting out of the 5th inning. He probably won't be back with the top club unless they desperately need him. I think Hideaki Takahashi, who has done yeoman's work, would be better suited to having a defined role in the pitching staff. Powell needs to be banished to ni-gun for a good long time, at least until his head is on straight and he's healthy, because I don't think he is.

So, that's my solution. Not the prettiest fix, but I think it's worth a try.

Hawks ni-gun pitching stats for this year.

Arakaki is actually doing pretty well. Standridge is, too. I saw him pitch on Monday at Gannosu, even, but I was kind of too preoccupied with taking photos and not dying of heatstroke.

Nikkan Sports reported last week that Arakaki is due for a promotion once he's worked out the issues with his slider. I would expect him to dominate ni-gun even without his slider though.
