- The 53-year old, who retired as a player in 1997, won the stolen base title four times during his playing career. He is the oldest player to lead the league in stolen bases, doing so at age 35 in 1993.

Uhhh, someone has got to tell me how this New Math stuff works. I mean, a guy like Oishi who was born October 20, 1958 is only 49 years old now -- and was 34 years old during the 1993 season. But either way if someone was 35 in 1993 and 53 now I would be extremely impressed with their time machine.

Maybe the Japan Times and the Daily Yomiuri have the same editors now! The latter is infamous for poor editing in the sports articles.
About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
