Checking in with Ryan Vogelsong
Hope all is well with the both of you guys.

How is the arm doing? Feeling better since leaving Downingtown?

How many starts so far?

Our Phillies are starting out good so far.

My son,Thomas loves the autograph. Already has it framed in his room.

Take care,

Tom

I don't think Vogelsong has started with the big club yet this year. And while his 2007 wasn't that great (really, no Hanshin starter did that well last year), as a Dragons fan, I'll always remember him as the pitcher who hit what would end up being a game-winning 2-run home run off of Kenshin Kawakami in a game last year.

Yeah, Vogelsong was known as much for his bat as his pitching, at least at the beginning of last year. Last I heard he was about to be called up and will hopefully get a start soon. But with most of the Tigers' starters off to good starts, I wonder if there will be room for him in the rotation.

With the exception of his last few games against the Giants, "Bogie" was a strong starter last year. He was out for a while with a shoulder problem but came back strong to win 5 in a row. He pitched strongly against the Dragons (who are very good)!

I have read he has had 2 strong outings in the minor leagues so far. 6 innings, 1 run each, with many strikeouts. I do not think anyone knows why he is not in ichi-gun right now. I have read some other teams have interest in him and I imagine if he is not called up soon, he will be traded.

Might have something to do with ichi-gun winning .813 without him. That said, Vogelsong is ichi-gun material, so there's a good chance he'll make the move from Naruohama to Koshien at some stage.

Vogelsong will be back in the first team - Okada has said as much. However, he does want to give Sugiyama a chance (or enough rope to hang himself), and Sugiyama's last two starts have been rained out. If, however, Sugiyama shows that his poor first game was a freak, Vogelsong may have to wait a while.

I've heard talk that Sugiyama will be dropped from the rotation, so hopefully that will make room for Vogelsong. But the Tigers have a lot of depth with starters. They still have Uezono, last year's rookie of the year, and Kanemura, a consistent starter for many years with Nippon Ham, at 2-gun.

What's the deal with skipping someone's starts when the game gets rained out? Sugiyama has been trying to prove his worth in the rotation, but 2 weeks in a row he has been passed over for Andoh. No complaints considering the way Andoh has been pitching, but it seems funny that when it rains someone just loses his chance.
