Hiroyuki Nakajima

Discussion in the Open Talk forum
Hiroyuki Nakajima
What happened in 2005 to Nakajima? Was he hurt or something? He had a big season in 2004 as a 22/23 year old and then fell off the map in 2005. I am assuming it was a sophomore fluke, but I could not find out if he had an injury that hampered him.

Thanks

Most NPB teams wish 11 HRs, 60 RBIs, and 11 SB would be an off year for their shortstops. Hehe.

Anyway, I remember him having a pretty great spring training. Once the season started, he just couldn't get hits. I don't know if it was an injury or not, but I remember him not being able to hit much. After a while, he was replaced by Kataoka. Seibu used a combination of Kataoka at SS/2B, Yoshihito Ishii at 2B, and Hiroyuki Takagi at 2B. They'd throw Nakajima in there every now and then, but he still couldn't find his rhythm for a while.

I predict that Seibu will start out with Nakamura at 3B, Nakajima at SS, and Ishii at 2B next year. If Ishii or Nakamura turn out to be one year wonders, then Kataoka will see more ABs. Freeing up the DH spot with the release of Fernandez should give Kaizuka some chances, too.

I'm pretty certain Nakajima will be a solid 15-20 HR guy. He'll be a lot like Nioka of the Giants.
