Jerrod Riggan

Jerrod Riggan
Why is Jerrod Riggan not being talked about or signed by a Japanese team? He is healthy and was near perfect for 2 seasons.

Anybody?

Maybe because he didn't even pitch until June of this year. He had a 3.6 ERA in the Florida State League playing against 20 year olds, and had a 5.79 ERA in AA. I doubt teams are eager to sign a 32 year old player who didn't even see AAA hitters this year.

I'm not saying he couldn't succeed again in Japan, but is it that difficult to understand why teams, Japanese or U.S., aren't lining up to sign him? Hopefully he can prove himself healthy and effective and earn a return to Japan or MLB. I'm sure Jerrod and his agent are realistic enough to understand his situation as well. Hopefully we see him again.

Like I pointed out in another topic, Riggan had a 5.79 ERA in 4 games in AA. Second, we're not 100% sure if he's healthy either. Third, he pitched in a total of 16 innings (of which none were at AAA). So, I can't see many NPB teams lining up to sign him with implied health questions.

Numbers are a funny thing. Riggan allowed 3 runs in his final game in rehab AA, on 2 errors be it. Other than that he gave up one run in 5 innings. Pretty good to me.

Also look at his rehab in A ball. A 3 run home run in 1 game. Can you judge a guy who has had success in 9 of his 10 professional seasons on 2 outings? His only bad year, and look at his stats to see, was with the Cleveland Indians in 2002. All the other years were great.

I would rather go on history than one or two bad outings. I believe his velocity was low 90's from what I hear.

I think it would be a good gamble for any Japanese team to try.

Also, he is already being offered a contract from the Mets. We will see what he does.

Sounds like you are his agent. By the way, how do you give up earned runs on errors?

No, I'm not his agent, but am very close to him.

Here is how you give up earned runs on errors. You have this happen to you on the road.

First guy was walked. Second guy bloop error. Third guy, base hit with an error. Bases loaded groundball to third error. 3 errors on the road 3, runs unearned that night. The next day the stats say 2 earned, 1 unearned. The hitter who eventually got the 2 extra RBI's the next day obviously went and complained about the ruling. Usually when it is scored that night, nothing gets changed unless somebody whines about it. At home, you get that, on the road you get screwed.

So my friend, that is how you get earned runs on errors.
