Before Sasaki left Japan to become the best closer in the Major Leagues, he had pretty much set all the closing related records in Japan. Sasaki's 45 saves in 1998 is still without approach, as were his 22 saves in a row from April 26 to June 30 of the same year.
But in Sasaki's absense, Kobayashi surpassed Sasaki's 22 consecutive save points between May 21 and October 17 last year (2002) for a new Japanese record. And April 23, 2003 saw Takatsu surpass his career save record of 229.
Next on Takatsu's agenda is Sasaki's record of 269 save points. With 4 so far this season, he needs 12 more to tie, 13 more for a new Japan record. It's just a matter of time.
