Day 7 - Game 2 - Riseisha Koukou (Osaka) vs. Seibou Gakuen (Saitama)
The first game of the round of 16 begins with Riseisha who needed extra innings to defeat Shimonoseki Shougyou, and Seibou Gakuin who cruised thanks to Ootsuka's 5-hitter against Komatsushima Koukou.

Riseisha
2B Yoshida
3B Inagaki
RF Yoshikawa
C Yamamoto
LF Motooka
1B Hamano
CF Kotani
SS Kariya
P Mimura

Seibou Gakuin
CF Etou
SS Murata
1B Kido
3B Shinozaki
RF Sekiguchi
P Ootsuka
LF Chikada
C Haramo
2B Takayama

Yoshida for Riseisha leads off the game with a double to the RCF wall. Looking for the quick run, Inagaki moves him to 3rd. But Yoshikawa grounds out to 1st and Yamamoto strikes out, stranding Yoshida at 2nd.

Etou leads it off for Seibou with a walk. No bunt from Murata though, but he pops out to Hamano. Then Kido walks on 4 straight for Shinozaki. He grounds to Yoshida at 2nd who goes to Kariya at 2nd, and Kariya misses the feed!! He was looking ahead to turning the DP and didn't get the first out! Meanwhile, Etou was running all the way and scores! Seibou out to the early 1-0 lead and runners are at 1st and 2nd with only one down for Sekiguchi! He grounds to the P who elects to take the lead runner at 3rd for the 2nd out. It's Ootsuka's turn to try and plate another run, but he pops to the C Yamamoto ending the inning.

Seibou would strike again in the 2nd. Chikada leads off with a double to LCF. With one down, Takayama walks. Then Etou gets hit by the first pitch from Mimura setting the bases loaded for Mimura. He doesn't disappoint as he drives the 2-2 pitch into the RCF gap scoring 2!

That would end Mimura's day. Riseisha's manager sends out Ishii (#10) to relive him and stop the bleeding. He inherits runners at 2nd and 3rd with only 1 down. And they elect to pitch to Kido instead of creating the force at home. Kido hits a grounder to 2nd and Yoshida goes home with the throw! It off line and Etou scores! Shinozaki then walks to put the bases loaded again with 1 down and Seibou looks to blow this one wide open! Ishii manages to get Sekiguchi to fly out to center, but Murata tags up and scores from 3rd. And mercifully the inning ends for Riseisha as Ootsuka can't deliver again and grounds to 3rd. The damage is done and Seibou is up 5-0.

Ishii manages to settle down though after coming into the game in a pinch situation. He goes through the next 3 innings in order yielding no baserunners.

Ootsuka for Seibou cruises along for the most part through the first 6 innings. He yields only 4 hits after that leadoff double and looks to get the win.

That is until the 7th...

With 2 down, and Ootsuka looking for another easy inning, Kotani rips one to RCF against a drawn in outfield for a stand-up triple! Then Kariya follows that up with a double to deep LCF! Then Ishii does the same!!! Yoshida gets the 4th consecutive extra base hit to the LCF wall! Inagaki then takes a fastball down the middle to LF scoring Yoshida! And if things couldn't be more unbelievable, Yoshikawa check swings on a 1-2 pitch in the dirt, but the ball somehow finds the bat. Not only that, but the ball goes over Kido at 1st and down the RF line for a double putting runners at 2nd and 3rd!!!!! 6 consecutive hits, 5 of them of the extra base variety, 4 runs in, the tying run at 2nd... and all with 2 down! BUT, cleanup batter Yamamoto cannot continue the trend, and grounds to Murata for the final out. He can't continue the rally, and he's 0-4 on the day with 2 K's and no ball out of the infield.

Seibou has to be worried. Riseisha is getting good contact on the ball, and they've turned a 6-0 rout into a 6-4 nailbiter. Then in the bottom of the 7th with 2 down Ootsuka, who just gave up those 4 runs, hits a breaking ball to LF and clears the fence for a home run!! It's only one run, but it extends the lead to 3 runs.

Riseisha refuses to go down though. Top 8, Motooka with the first pitch single to LF. He steals 2nd on the strikeout to Fujimoto who pinch-hit for Hamano in the 7th. Kotani, who started the carousel of runners in the last inning comes to the plate, but this time just bloops one into no-man's land in RCF! It's good enough though as Motooka scores getting that run back and cutting the deficit back to 2. Kariya though flies to RF, and Ishii strikes out, keeping the Seibou lead at 2.

And that's they way the game would end. Riseisha put on a great show in the 7th, but it wasn't enough as Seibou would advance to the Best 8 with a 6-4 win.
