Both were amazing players. Yamamoto put up some of the best career numbers ever by a Japanese outfielder.

Horiuchi was fantastic and had to be one of the best batting pitchers of all time. He had one of the greatest performances of all time against Hiroshima in 1967 when he pitched a no hitter in addition to hitting three home runs in three consecutive at bats. I don't think anyone is ever going to do that again.

Heh, Horiuchi was seriously one of the first Japanese players I heard a lot about. One of my Japanese professors back in college had a Horiuchi poster up on her wall - she was a big Giants fan growing up in Tokyo.

I remember I asked her who he was, and she said "I totally loved this guy when I was a teenager." She told me about what a great pitcher he was and how exciting it was to watch him, and about being a Giants fan when they were in their V9 years. It was almost a decade later when I realized how old that meant my teacher must be.

Yeah, excellent choices there. I had forgotten that these guys weren't already in the HOF, honestly!
